Obituary for Elizabeth "Peg" Regal

Elizabeth L. ”Peg” Regal died on May 15, 2010 peacefully in her sleep. She was born in Peoria, Illinois, in 1925, daughter of Norman and Jean Webster Appleby. Peg graduated from Peoria Central High School in 1943, loving her high school years and participation as a cheerleader. Like other women of her time, Peg was a WW II bride, marrying her life companion Ray Regal in 1943 before he left to serve in the Army in Europe. Peg and Ray raised two children, Ron and Vicki, in their home on Hampton Court in Peoria. She and Ray especially loved golfing together and their trips to Hawaii. In Peoria another favorite activity was to walk along Grand View Drive admiring the view of the river and the fall colors. In later years Peg continued her love of exercise earning her Physical Therapist Assistant Certification from ICC in 1999. Before moving to Proctor Endowment Home, Peg lived on Jayar Drive growing many varieties of beautiful flowers. At Proctor Endowment Home she was an avid exerciser. She also loved watching birds come to her bird feeder, especially goldfinches, and strolling through the grounds amongst the flowers. She looked forward to visits from her dear friends and her monthly high school reunion gathering at Perkins. The fellowship at St. Thomas Church was a constant source of support and enjoyment for Peg. She dearly loved singing in the St. Thomas choir as well as reading to school children and hearing their stories from home. Being a most loving and generous spirit, Peg made many friends from all walks of life in her hometown of over 80 years. She always showed a deep love of her home and family-she touched many lives and will be greatly missed. Peg is survived by Ron of Duluth, MN, Vicki in Mount Vernon, WA, her four beloved grandchildren (Cindy Regal, CO; Chet Lofgren, ID; Robert Regal, MN; Laura Regal, CO) and a great-grandchild Nolan Ray Papp. A Memorial Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at St. Thomas Catholic Church. Msgr. William Watson officiating. Visitation will be one hour before services at church. Cremation rites will be accorded. Private burial of ashes will be in Resurrection Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to: Advanced System Designs Scholarship Honoring Ray and Peg Regal, Illinois Central College Educational Foundation, 1 College Dr, East Peoria, IL 61635.
