Liz was a member of St Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Peoria, St. Vincent’s Women Guild, Catholic Women’s League, Cursillo, FHL Prison Ministry, and Knights of Columbus Auxiliary. She ministered at church in her role as a Eucharist minister and ministered weekly for 17 years for Rosary and Communion Services at Independence Village Senior Living. She was employed at St Vincent de Paul Catholic School for many years as an endeared lunch lady.
She was a true servant of God and her Catholic faith was at the core of how she lived her life. She drew her strength from her relationship with Jesus and had a special devotion to our Blessed Mother, Mary. The rosary was her favorite prayer, and she always had one in her pocket or under her pillow at night, ready to pray. A highlight of her life was when she met Pope John Paul II and had the privilege to shake the now Saint’s hand.
Liz loved people especially her large family, each and every one, with her whole heart, and if you are part of her family… you know this to be true. She cherished her friends both old and new and always made time to be kind and to say “hello.” One word that describes her well is BELOVED by the many people who were so fond of her.
She was a life-long Cub fan and lived many years to see the day that the Cubbies reigned supreme and won the World Series in 2016. This gave her much joy if not proof of her perseverance! She was an avid game/puzzle player specializing in cards, jigsaw puzzles and crosswords puzzles. “Grandma Bub,” as she was known affectionately by her many grands, was a fantastic cook and baker specializing in thumb print cookies, holiday caramels, peanut brittle, and Christmas candy. She was apt to “warm her cockles,” with a little sip of Baileys Irish Cream and good company. Liz worked many summers at the Illinois State Fair and loved helping her siblings with their concessions stands, she also worked many fairs locally serving up delicious Bill’s Lemonade shake-ups.
The family would like to especially thank all her friends and staff at Buehler Home for their tremendous care and concern shown her while living at Buehler. They were truly her extended family, and she loved her Buehler home!
