Mom
Starting her morning,
Mom’s face a delight.
Eight pair of eyes,
wide open and bright.
Expecting and diapers,
still two in training.
Off to help Dad,
with no complaining.
Kids shoes on the counter,
set straight in a row.
Polished for Sunday,
for God they must know.
Off to Spring Street,
dressed in the same wear.
Show Gramp your pearlies,
Grams cake there to share.
Sisters go shopping,
kids squeezed in 4 doors.
Asked them when stopping,
“Are all those kids yours?”
Fried chicken her best,
with room at the table.
No matter the number,
Mom always was able.
Days go quickly,
to school will send.
One Pegg will enter,
where other ones end.
The sun is now setting,
Mom sits at a desk.
Getting a tablet,
her thoughts before rest.
Slowly she writes,
an art in itself.
She whispers each name,
her children, her wealth.
“Eddie William,
Kathleen Ann,
Charlene Marie,
Marlene Mary,
Eileen Lynn,
Coleen Kay,
Darleen Denise,
Robert Russell,
I love all you darling, loving, kind, sweet Pegg kids.
The best in all the whole wide world.
your Mother”
Eight precious souls,
all raised and grown.
Because of your love,
we're never alone.
