Peoria- Elaine Georgialee Clark, age 84, of Peoria, passed away at 4:23 PM on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at Apostolic Skyline.
Elaine was born February 27, 1939 in Peoria to George and Julia (Roguszka) Dammann. Elaine grew up in the East Bluff neighborhood, and graduated from the Academy of Our Lady in 1957. She earned a bachelor's degree from Clarke College in 1961. On August 4, 1962 she married Gary Clark in Peoria at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church. Together, Gary and Elaine cherished 59 years of marriage until Gary passed on September 27, 2021.
She was a proud mother of three boys. Elaine was an educator for many years, eventually teaching 3rd grade at St. Philomena Catholic School. After she retired from teaching, she continued educating the young by being a reading buddy to children at Trewyn Elementary School.
Elaine had a true love for the performing arts, and was active on stage and behind the scenes at the Peoria Civic Ballet, Cornstock Theatre and Peoria Players Theatre. She enjoyed teaching water aerobics at the Peoria YMCA for many years. Elaine loved to garden, travel and shop( especially for shoes). Later in life, Elaine continued her love of learning in her activities with Osher Life Long Learning Institute at Bradley University.
She was a loving mother and grandmother who cherished her family and will be deeply missed.
Survivors include three sons: Kevin (Jamie) Clark of St. Charles, IL, Brian Clark of Birmingham, AL, and Mark (Erin) Clark of Madison, WI; four grandchildren: Jackson, Ella, Kate, and Lauren; and one brother Gordon (Karen) Dammann of Lena, IL.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gary, and one sister, Carol Gruber.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Visitation will take place at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church on Saturday, September 23, 2023 from 9:00 AM until time of Memorial Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Father Stephen Willard will officiate, and entombment will follow in Resurrection Mausoleum.
Preferred memorials in Elaine’s memory may be made to Sophia’s Kitchen or the Peoria YMCA.
