Obituary for Edward Carl Komm, Jr.
EAST PEORIA—Edward Carl Komm, Jr., 72, formerly of rural Morton, died Thursday, January 3, 2019, at UnityPoint Health-Methodist Medical Center in Peoria. He was born March 27, 1946 in Mammoth Spring, AR., to Edward and Virginia (Thomasson) Komm.
He married Ann Marie Heinzmann on July 27, 1985 in Peoria. She survives.
Edd is also survived by a sister, Susan (Van) Schmidt of St. Peters, MO.; a nephew, Jason (Alison) Schmidt of Kirkland, WA.; a niece, Liese (Larry Marks) Schmidt of St. Charles, MO.; a grand nephew, Ian Schmidt, of Kirkland, WA.; and numerous other Heinzmann in-laws and nieces and nephews.
Though Edd maintained lifelong family ties to southeastern Missouri, he moved multiple times in his youth and graduated from high school in Rochester, Indiana. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Illinois State University. He served 28 years in the United States Air Force and Illinois Air National Guard, retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant in March 1993. After retiring from the military, Edd served as a substitute mail carrier for the Tremont Post Office for 15 years.
He enjoyed country living, especially spending time with relatives and friends on a family farm near Thayer, MO.
A Memorial Service will begin at 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019, with Military Honors to follow, at The Waterhouse, 316 SW Washington St., Peoria, IL. A reception will follow services until 3:30 p.m. also at The Waterhouse.
