Poinciana, FL- Edith Lucille Yeagle, 94, of Poinciana, FL, passed away April 9, 2020, at Wedgewood of Winter Haven Assisted Living Facility in Winter Haven, FL.
Edith was born November 29, 1925, in Fairbury, IL, to the late Edward A. and Louise (Harrington) Yeagle.
She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Joseph Yeagle, in 1951, a sister, Rose “Kay” Crusen, in 2018, a niece, Mary Sue Vachon, in 2003, a nephew, John Crusen, in 2003 and a beloved lifelong friend, Barbara Morace, in 2014.
Edith is survived by her nieces and nephews, Martha Schmitt, Joseph Crusen, Cathy Rosenthal and Paul Crusen of IL. She is also survived by many friends across the country: of special mention is Dan Whims, whom she called her son, his daughter Danielle, to whom Edith was Godmother, and his wife Dianna Whims of OH. Those also missing her are: Patricia Rosanova of AZ, Racquel Vargas of FL who cared for Edith daily and a very dear friend, Olga Laureano of FL who visited Edith every day, brought her home-cooked meals and prayed with her. Her friends and family would like to thank Home Instead Senior Care, Cornerstone Hospice & Palliative Care and Wedgewood of Winter Haven Florida for all their special care and kindness to Edith.
Edith graduated from Fairbury Township High School and received her business schooling right in Fairbury going directly to work from high school to the legal firm of James & Dolgin. She was president of her high school class and was active in Alpha Iota Sorority business girl's sorority serving in Regional Counselor last, having California, Nevada and Hawaii under her.
Edith moved from Illinois to California in 1954 and began a wonderful career as the secretary to George Getty, son of J. Paul Getty of Getty Oil. She then worked at Ashkenazy Enterprises as a personal assistant to the owner, Arnold Ashkenazy. After her retirement, she moved to Poinciana, FL in 2003 and lived there until her death. She was a devout Catholic and easily made friends with everyone she met.
A private graveside committal service will be held Friday, April 17, 2020 at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in West Peoria with Father David Richardson officiating. There will be no visitation.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home in Winter Haven, FL and Wright & Salmon Mortuary in Peoria, IL.
