Obituary for Duane Harry Menk

EAST PEORIA-Duane Harry Menk, 78, of East Peoria and Harlingen, Texas, passed away at 2:28 a.m. on Monday, June 8, 2009 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, ER. He was born on March 7, 1931 in Bertha, MN to Harry D. and Ella Voeltz Menk. He married Jane Janovetz Heer on September 26, 1986 in Peoria. She survives. He is also survived by three children, Susan (Bob) Sindelir of Baudette, MN, Harry (Mary Melvin) Menk of Plymouth, MN and Jeff (Kay) Menk of Hamilton, MT; three step-children, Holly (Jeff) Ott of Dunlap, and twins, Jason (Alycia) Heer of Chicago and Jeremy (Sarah) Heer of Brookfield, IL; nine grandchildren; four step grandchildren; two great grandchildren; four nieces and nephews; and a son-in-law, Noel Cornelius. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Donna Menk Cornelius, one brother, Emroy Menk and one sister, Edna Ella Menk. Duane was an Electronics Technician for the National Weather Service, retiring in 1993. He was a Korean War US Air Force veteran. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, American Legion and N.A.R.F.E. Duane enjoyed fishing, reading, cooking, gardening and fixing everything around the house, and helping family and neighbors. He was involved with his church and was a great hugger who loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A Funeral Service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at Resurrection Mausoleum Chapel with Pastor James Bettermann and Pastor Mark Nelson officiating. Visitation will be from 9-10:30 a.m. before the services at the mausoleum. Entombment will follow the services in the mausoleum. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
