Obituary for Dr. Thomas H. Stanisic

PEORIA-Dr. Thomas H. Stanisic, 62 of Peoria, died at 2:58 p.m. on Saturday, December 30, 2006, surrounded by his family at his residence. Born on January 1, 1944 in East St. Louis, IL to Anton F. and Agnes C. Beljanski Stanisic. He married Karen Rice in 1963. He later married Joyce Kilcoyne in June 1993. She died on August 22, 2000. He then married Joan Powers on October 5, 2002 in Peoria. She survives. Also surviving are one son, Geoffrey (Danielle) Stanisic of Tempe, AZ; two step daughters, Lindsay Powers (Michael Farrell) of St. Louis, MO and Kathryn L. Powers of Peoria; and one grandson, Robert Thomas Stanisic of Tempe, AZ. He also was preceded in death by his parents. Dr. Stanisic was a graduate of Cornell University in Ithaca, NY in 1965 and Northwestern University Medical School, where he was Valedictorian of his class of 1969. He served his internship and residency in surgery at the University of Rochester, NY from 1969-1971. He then served his internship in urology at Northwestern University from 1973-1977. He was a professor of Surgery/Urology at University of Arizona from 1977 until 1993. He was a partner with Midwest Urological Group in Peoria until the time of his death. He was a member of the Peoria Medical Society and the American Urological Association. He served in the US Navy from 1971-1973 during the Vietnam War. He was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Peoria Heights where a funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday with Msgr. William Watson officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday at the church and one hour before the mass at church. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in West Peoria.
