Obituary for Dr. Hugh J. McMenamin

PEORIA-Dr. Hugh J. McMenamin, 81 of Peoria, passed away at 9:40 a.m. on Tuesday, October 30, 2007 at Proctor Hospital. He was born on September 25, 1926 in DeKalb, IL to Hugh J. Sr. and Marion Lalley McMenamin. He married Irene G. Fitzgibbons on July 29, 1950 in Maywood, IL. She survives. He is also survived by three sons, Daniel (Bonnie) McMenamin of Indianapolis, IN, Mark McMenamin of Brookline, MA and Patrick (Karen) McMenamin of Morton; three daughters, Eileen Teska of Indianapolis, IN, Carol (Marc) Pasteris of Peoria Heights and Joyce (Alan) Anderson of Roanoke; 15 grandchildren and one brother, Joseph (Barbara) McMenamin of San Diego, CA. He was preceded in death by one son, Hugh J. III, one daughter, Joan Marie, one sister and two brothers. Dr. McMenamin was Chief of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Mennonite Hospital in Bloomington, IL. His Staff Appointments include consulting with Brokaw Hospital in Normal, IL, Eureka Hospital in Eureka, IL and St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. He was a Clinical Associate Professor at the Peoria School of Medicine University of Illinois in Peoria. He formerly was on the Staff at Proctor Hospital, Methodist Medical Center and OSF St. Francis Medical Center. He served with the US navy from 1944-1946. He was a member of the American Medical Association, American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine, past President of Illinois Society of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and past President of Mid-America Society of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Peoria Heights where a Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. on Friday with Rev. Thomas Taylor officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday at Wright & Salmon Mortuary with recitation of the rosary at 7:30 p.m. Additional visitation will be one hour before the mass at the church. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Thomas Church Building Fund or Sisters of St. Francis of the Immaculate Conception.
