Obituary for Dorothy Mae Anstett

PEORIA – Dorothy Mae Anstett, 90, of Peoria, passed away at 10:22 p.m. Sunday, September 29, 2013, at Proctor Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Dorothy was born on December 28, 1922, in Morris, Ill., to Roy and Anna (Heylek) Nelson. She married Alfred Robert Anstett on November 15, 1941, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Kankakee, Ill. He preceded her in death on February 18, 2003. She was also preceded in death by one granddaughter and one brother, Norman Nelson. She is survived by her children, James (Darlene) Anstett of Peoria, Barbara (George) Lechner of Bloomington, Ind., Kathleen (James) Swanson of Phoenix, Ariz., and Timothy (Melissa) Anstett of Chicago; ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Virginia Nelson of Mt. Morris, Ill; and several nieces and nephews. Dorothy graduated from Morris High School in Morris. She later attended Gallagher College in Kankakee. She worked for International Harvester, and for many years with her husband as a secretary at Anstett Accounting. She was a member of the board of Knife and Fork Club, secretary of Women’s Advisory Board of Willow Knolls Country Club, and adult leader for the Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts. She was also an officer for the League of Women Voters for many years, volunteered at Lakeview Museum, and was an avid reader and bridge player. Dorothy was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. She was past president of St. Bernard’s Mother’s Club, past vice-president of St. Vincent de Paul Women’s Guild, past secretary of Catholic Women’s League, and past secretary of St. Vincent de Paul Seniors. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 5, 2013, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Father James Pallardy will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to Friends of the Peoria Public Library or St. Jude Midwest Affiliate.
