Obituary for Dorothy E. Ludolph

ST. LOUIS – Dorothy E. Ludolph, 93, of St. Louis, formerly of Peoria, passed away at 5:10 p.m. Monday, June 23, 2014, at Little Sisters of the Poor, St. Louis. She was born on May 16, 1921, in Indianapolis to William and Florence Fries. She married Elmer F. Ludolph on June 5, 1976. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents; 10 brothers and sisters; two stepsons, Thomas Ludolph and EJ Ludolph. She is survived by five stepchildren, Cathie (Ludolph) Perry of Minnesota, Michael (Jan Lawson) Ludolph of California, Christopher (Kim) Ludolph of Illinois, Richard (Darla) Ludolph of Illinois, and Mary Ludolph (Tony) Aliaga of California; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Penny (Albert) Fries of Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews. Dorothy attended Sacred Heart Grade and High Schools in Indianapolis. She received her B.A. from Fontbonne College in St. Louis and her M.A. from Notre Dame University in South Bend, Ind. She retired from teaching in 1984, after 45 years. She taught in St. Louis and Ste. Genevieve, Mo., Littleton, Colo., Valdosta, Ga., Peoria, Denver, Colo., Champaign, Ill., and Chicago, last teaching at St. Thomas School in Peoria Heights where she worked from 1976 to 1984. A funeral Mass will be 10 a.m., Monday, June 30, 2014, at St. Thomas Catholic Church. Father Thomas Taylor will officiate. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m., Sunday, June 29, 2014, at Wright & Salmon Mortuary. An additional visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, West Peoria. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Little Sisters of the Poor, 3225 N Florissant Ave, St Louis, Mo. 63107 or the charity of the donor’s choice.
