Peoria- Dorothy A. Gibson, 84, of Peoria, passed away on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at her home.
Dorothy was born on September 21, 1937 in Eureka to Walter and Elsie (Kenyon) Kuebler. She married Donald Gibson on November 25, 1961 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Roanoke, Illinois. He preceded her in death in 2013.
She is survived by her children, Donald (Debbie) Gibson of Hanna City, Michael (Patty) Gibson of Glendale, MO, Jenny (Mike) Caughey of Peoria, Patricia (Bill McCormack) Gibson of Peoria, Karl Gibson of Peoria, and John (Jenny) Gibson of Washington, IL; her grandchildren, Matt and Scott Caughey, Dan, Joe, and Bridget Gibson, Forbes and Madeline Gibson-McCormack, and Luke, Ben and Megan Gibson, and one brother-in-law, Patrick Gibson of Peoria.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two siblings.
She was a United States Army Veteran. She served at Governor’s Island military base in New York City, and worked in the press office under the administration of President Dwight D. Eisenhower. She later worked for over 20 years for the Peoria County Regional Office of Education as the Director of Project Upward, a literacy program for adults.
She was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church and a devout Roman Catholic.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at 10:00 AM at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Peoria. The Most Reverend Bishop Daniel Jenky will officiate. Cremation rites will be accorded following the Mass. A private burial of ashes will be held at a later date in St. Joseph Cemetery in West Peoria.
In lieu of flowers memorials in Dorothy’s memory may be made to St. Bernard Catholic Church.
