Obituary for Dorothy A. Davis
Peoria-Dorothy A. Erwin-Davis, age 90, of San Jose, Illinois, passed away at 12:50 AM on January 01, 2017 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center.
Born October 30, 1926 in Fulton County, she was a daughter to Henry Peter and Myrtle Alice Driver-Beckett. On January 18, 1946, Dorothy married Harmon E. Erwin in Peoria. He preceded her in death on April 26, 1990. Dorothy then married Wallace Davis, and he preceded her in death in 2014. She worked as a clerk for Bergners Department store for 20 years until her retirement in 1988. Dorothy lived in Peoria for 24 years, moved to Marquette Heights, then moved to Arizona in 1993. She enjoyed singing with the Sweet Adelines for 20 years and even took 3rd place in the International Singing Competition in New Orleans. Dorothy was an avid bowler, loved reading and working in the yard and garden. She cherished spending time with her family and grandchildren, and enjoyed living with her grandchildren, Rory and Lori, and her great grandson Caleb, when she moved back to Peoria in 2014. Dorothy enjoyed many memories with her lifelong friend Betty Auer, and was truly loved by her family and will be missed greatly.
Survivors include five children, Sharon Chadwick of Maryland, David (Chris) Erwin of Normal, IL, Sharmon (Dale) Etienne of Las Vegas, NV, Sharilyn Erwin of Marquette Heights, IL, and Robert (Jeannine) Erwin of LaSalle, IL; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as, many friends in Arizona.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, 1st husband Harmon Erwin, 2nd Husband Wallace Davis, 5 brothers, and 4 sisters.
Visitation will be held between the hours on 5:00 PM till 7:00 PM on Wednesday, January 04, 2017 at Wright & Salmon Mortuary. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, January 05, 2017 at Wright & Salmon Mortuary. Pastor Brooks McDaniels will officiate and burial will follow in Swan Lake Memory Gardens.
Memorials in Dorothy’s memory may be made to the Illinois Cancer Center, St. Jude Midwest Affiliate, or Wounded Warriors Project.
