Obituaries
PEORIA-Donna J. Vonachen, 70, of Peoria, passed away at 6:50 a.m. on Sunday, March 25, 2007 at her residence. Born on January 30, 1937 in Peoria to C. Arthur and Edna Cramer Hurst. She married Harold A. “Pete” Vonachen Jr. on May 11, 1957 in Peoria. He survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Mary Michael Shadid of Peoria; four sons, Harold A. “Rocky” Vonachen III of Peoria, Gregory (Kathy) Vonachen of Glen Ellyn, IL, Daniel (Jennifer) Vonachen of Peoria and Mark (Amy) Vonachen of Peoria; eleven grandchildren, Megan, Lauren, Abby, Erica, Claire, Michelle, Druschel, Olivia, Jabe, Natalie and Jac; two sisters, Mary (John) Slevin of Peoria and Janice Deane of Delaware. She was preceded in death by her parents. She graduated from the Academy of Our Lady and attended Bradley University. A member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Peoria Heights, Junior League, Country Club of Peoria and PI Beta PHI Sorority. She was a former member of the Ivy Club. Donna was recognized as 1st Lady of Baseball in Peoria. A most avid Chief fan, she kept score at every game. She loved to paint and playing cards with her grandchildren. She also loved flower gardens. Her main interest in life was her family and grandkids. She enjoyed her winters down on Longboat Key. Donna was a very loving and graceful lady who battled cancer for 6 years and never complained. A Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday at St. Thomas Church with Msgr. William Watson officiating. Visitation will be from 12 Noon to 3 p.m. and 6:30-9:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the church. Additional visitation will be one hour before the mass at the church. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Entombment will be in Resurrection Mausoleum.
