Obituary for Donna Brookhart

PEORIA Donna Jean Brookhart, 76, of Peoria passed away at 8:49 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, 2015, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center.
Donna was born on Dec. 13, 1938, in Peoria to the late Robert and Irene (Stenger) Carroll. She married Dr. Gerald M. Brookhart on Aug. 6, 1960. He survives.
She is also survived by her daughters, Debbie (Levi) Blair of North Pekin, Susan Canty of Peoria, and Katie (Paul) Coogan and Tracy (Steve) Smith both of Wauwatosa, Wisc.; grandchildren, Ryan, Erin, Charlie, and Jack Coogan, Matthew, Maddie, Ben, and Timmy Canty, and Riley, Ellen, and Anna Smith; siblings, Gerald (Linda) Carroll of Elmwood, Betty (Bob) Gorman of Peoria, and Richard (Caroll) Carroll of Brimfield; special friend, Jacquie Berg; two aunts; several nieces and nephews; and a host of domino, bridge club, and neighborhood friends.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Pat Wilkinson.
Donna graduated from Brimfield High School. She received her bachelors degree from Marycrest College in Davenport, Iowa, and her masters degree from Bradley University. She was the department chair and taught home economics at IVC High School, retiring in 2001. Donna bestowed priceless life education on thousands of her students.
She was a best friend and valued resource for her daughters and grandchildren. Donna has now taken over eternal holiday kitchen duties where there is never a need to do the dishes.
The family wishes to thank the entire medical staff at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, especially the surgical ICU team.
A memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2015, at St. Philomena Catholic Church. Father Jacob Valle will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2015, at Wright Salmon Mortuary, with recitation of the Rosary at 7 p.m. An additional visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the Mass at the church. Cremation rites have been accorded.
