Obituary for Donald J. Burkardt

PEORIA HEIGHTS-Donald J. Burkardt, 72 of Peoria Heights, passed away at 6:28 a.m. on Saturday, October 20, 2007 at Washington Christian Village. He was born on June 28, 1935 in Amboy, IL to Arthur D. and Dorothy C. Lipps Burkardt. He is survived by six children, Deborah (Jerry) Eyster, Cheryl (Randy) Kelch, Joy Marinich, Brett Burkardt, James Burkardt all of Peoria and Dawn Jones of LaSalle, IL; eleven grandchildren, Tracy (Chris) Moore, Jessica Eyster, Amy Kelch, Matthew Kelch, Chasity Schmick, Tara Jones, Morgan Jones, Damian Worden, Carly Burkardt, Skyler Burkardt and Landen Burkardt; five great-grandchildren, Blake Sullivan, Jurnee Jones, Piper Hawkins, Ethan Schmick and Damian Worden; six brothers, Charles (Lola) Burkardt of Compton, IL, Bill (Beverly) Burkardt of Polo, IL, Roger (Pat) Burkardt of Vista, CA, Ed (Judi) Burkardt of Mendota, IL, John Burkardt of Irving, TX and Tom (Mary Lou) Burkardt of Dixon, IL; four sisters, Eileen Johannes and Rita Ray both of Dixon, IL and Jane (Joe) Harris and Marilyn (Rod) Carls both of Peoria. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Gilbert, Bob and Dan Burkardt and seven sisters, Mary and Therese Burkardt, Ruth Van Unnik, Eunice Goy, Carol Twardowski, Irene Moncelle and Sharon Krutsinger. Donald worked in Sales for Plaza Tire Co. in Pekin for many years, last working for Tommy House Tire in Peoria, retiring in 2004. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Peoria and Catholic Order of Foresters. A Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at Sacred Heart Church with Franciscan Fathers officiating. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday at Wright & Salmon Mortuary with recitation of the rosary at 7:30 p.m. Additional visitation will be one hour before the mass at the church. Cremation rites will be accorded. Burial of ashes will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Sublette, IL at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Church.
