Obituary for Donald E. Broaddus

Donald Edwin Broaddus, 82, of Pompano Beach, Florida, died Monday morning, September 23, 2019, at his home. He was born May 31, 1937, in Peoria, IL, to Edwin & Viola (Kuhne) Broaddus.

Donald is survived by his partner of 50 years, Jack Huizenga, of Pompano Beach, two nephews: Stephen (Jacquelyn) Russell of Morton, Illinois, and Kevin Russell, of Peoria, a great nephew, Phillip Fuller of Evansville, Indiana, and his cousin, Barb Macy, of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Velma (Edward) Russell.

Donald graduated from Spalding Institute in Peoria (1955) and graduated from Bradley University (1963). He was a veteran of the US Army, serving from 1960 - 1962 at an Army Security Agency near Ankara, Turkey.

He worked for Scott Foresman Publishers in Chicago from 1963 to 1969. He then worked for Bureau of National Affairs in Washington, D.C. from 1969 to 1994.

Donald retired in 1994 for medical reasons and lived in Annapolis, Maryland. He was active in the Saint Vincent de Paul organization at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Annapolis.
He lived in London for five years from 1995 to 2000.

In 2004, he moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and in 2013 to John Knox Village in Pompano Beach, Florida. He attended St. Henry Catholic Church in Pompano Beach.
Don loved to travel. He and Jack travelled extensively to many places including, Rome, Barcelona, Machu Picchu, South America, Africa, Lake Como, the Greek Isles, the Caribbean, Egypt and Alaska.

A funeral mass will be held at Resurrection Mausoleum Chapel at 10:00 AM, on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 with Father Paul Stark of St. Thomas Catholic Church officiating. Visitation will be a half hour prior to services. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
