Obituary for Donald C. Stenger

Donald C. Stenger, 93, of Kickapoo, died on Friday, February 10, 2012 at 8:40 a.m. at Methodist Medical Center. Born January 1, 1919 in Kickapoo to Charles and Cecilia Loescher Stenger, he married Eva Picl on November 30, 1943 in Peoria. She survives, along with three children: Sharon (Dan) Manning of Peoria, Ronald C. Stenger of Princeville, and Karen (Ron) Blevins of Gorman, CA. Four brothers: Charles Stenger of Peoria, and Eugene Stenger, Raymond (Mary) Stenger, and Andrew (Ollie) Stenger all of Kickapoo, three sisters: Sister Jean Francis Stenger of Peoria, Cecilia Guth of Metamora, and Mary Louise Stenger of Milwaukee. Three grandchildren: Bryan, Scott and Kevin Manning. Eight great grandchildren: Kayla, Courtney, Kiersten, Brenden, Mackenzie, Lily, Josefine, and Natalie also survive. He was preceded in death by three sisters: Dorothy Cluskey, Rosemary Duley, and Margaret Nauman. Donald has always been engaged in farming until his retirement in 1984. He was also employed in the shipping department of Hiram Walker & Sons, until the closing of the Peoria plant in 1981. Donald was a WWII Army Veteran, Cub Scout Leader, avid Cub fan, and played baseball in his early years in the Kickapoo baseball leagues. He also was a 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus, Bishop Rosati Council in Kickapoo, and a member of The Kickapoo Sportsman's Club. He was a great family man who loved kids and he will be greatly missed! He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Kickapoo, where a Funeral Mass will be Thursday, 11:30 a.m., with Fr. David Heinz and Fr. Joseph Dondanville officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Parish Hall in Kickapoo, and 1 hour prior to the mass on Thursday. A Scripture Service will be at 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Kickapoo. Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Kickapoo or Charity of Donor’s Choice.
