Obituary for Donald A. Gibson

PEORIA – Donald A. Gibson, 82, of Peoria, passed away on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center. Donald was born on August 5, 1930 in Peoria to Thomas P. and Hazel (Fosbender) Gibson. He married Shirley Bremer on September 22, 1956. She passed away on February 19, 1960. He married Dorothy Kuebler on November 25, 1961 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Roanoke, IL. She survives. He is also survived by his children, Donald (Debbie) Gibson of Hanna City, Michael (Patty) Gibson of Glendale, MO, Jenny (Mike) Caughey of Peoria, Patricia (Bill McCormack) Gibson of Peoria, Karl Gibson of Peoria, and John (Jenny) Gibson of Washington, IL; his siblings, Dolores Klein, John Gibson, Dave Gibson, and Pat Gibson all of Peoria; and his grandchildren, Matt and Scott Caughey, Dan, Joe, and Bridget Gibson, Forbes and Madeline Gibson-McCormack, and Luke, Ben and Megan Gibson. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas and Joe Gibson. Donald graduated from Spalding Institute. He worked in research for Caterpillar Inc. for 44 years, and was an Army veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church. He was active in local softball programs both as a coach and a player. He umpired at the Peoria Park District and was active in the Catholic Dartball League. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m., Friday, February 15, 2013 at St. Bernard Catholic Church. The Most Reverend Bishop Daniel Jenky will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Cremation rites will be accorded following the Mass. A private burial of ashes at St. Joseph Cemetery will be at a later date. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to St. Bernard Catholic Church. Tributes and condolences may be submitted to www.wrightandsalmon.com.
