Obituary for Deborah Johnson

Deborah Johnson, age 64, of Peoria IL., passed away at 12:15 a.m. on Tuesday April 24, 2018 in Tijuana, Mexico at the Rubio Cancer Center with her husband by her side. She was born May 19, 1953 in Peoria, IL., to the late Frank and Lavada (Jones) Hamilton. Deborah was the youngest of three sisters, Gwendolyn Kelly and Cassalene Knox, who both preceded her in death.

Her early education started when she attended St. Patrick‘s Grammar School and graduated from the Academy of Our Lady Catholic High School. After completing that phase of her education she obtained a certification in Data Processing in Kansas.

Deborah worked for two years at Commercial Bank before she started working for Caterpillar, Incorporated in 1972, where she was hired in as a keypunch operator. After several years in keypunch she began to advance at Caterpillar, starting with working in EAM, the Computer Center, Operation Technical Support, Supervision, and other positions before retiring in 2015 after forty-three years of service.

Deborah married Alger Johnson on July 3, 1999 and the two partnered with Legal Shield in 2000 and are now Regional Managers covering Central Illinois. This endeavor kept them on the road often for meetings and conferences all over the country. She remained active in the business until her death.

She served as a voting judge at the polls at election time and took voting very seriously.

Deborah loved traveling, reading, music, watching football, basketball and playing cards. She also had a passion for driving and dreamed of driving on the Autobahn. She was a fierce competitor and was always ready for a challenge. She was also known for making the best sweet potato pie that you have ever tasted. Her sense of humor and fun loving spirit will be missed by all that knew and loved her.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband Alger Johnson, devoted daughter, from her first marriage, Raven Trapp, step-children, Tanyika (Tracy) Johnson-Travis, Alger Johnson Jr., and David Johnson, eight grandchildren, her nephew, Don (Shalonda) Knox, who she helped rear along with her mother and a host of cousins and friends.
