Obituary for Dawn Wilkins

PEORIA Dawn Wilkins, 79, of Peoria passed away at 1:15 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9, 2015, at her residence surrounded by love.
Dawn was born on Feb. 19, 1936, in Galveston, Tex., to the late Walter James and Lucille (Moye) Godfrey. She married John Douglas Wilkins on Feb. 1, 1958, in Brownsville, Tex. He survives.
She is also survived by her daughter, Ansley W. (Peter) Pearce of Cohasset, Mass.; her son, Douglas E. (Christy Purvis) Wilkins of Peoria; grandchildren, Douglas H. Pearce of Somerville, Mass., Chase M. (Megan) Wilkins of Bartonville, and Jack Douglas Wilkins of Peoria; step-grandchildren, Ian, Adam, Evan, and Lexi Purvis all of Peoria; one sister, Kay Godfrey of Cuernava, Mexico; and sister-in-law, Peggy Godfrey of Raleigh, N.C.
She was preceded in death by her twin brother, Walter J. Dubby Godfrey Jr.; and her younger brother, Frederick Butch Godfrey.
Dawn received her bachelor degree in accounting from the University of Texas in Austin and worked as a grade school teacher.
She was a past president of the Junior League of Peoria and was a member of P.E.O. Sisterhood, a philanthropic educational organization for women. She was also a member of the Altar Guild at St. Pauls Episcopal Church in Peoria for over 40 years.
Dawn married into a lifelong interest in boating and loved her time with family and friends at the Illinois Valley Yacht Club. She found grace on the water and in her garden.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, 2015, at St. Pauls Episcopal Church. Rev. Jennifer Replogle and Rev. Jonathan Thomas will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, prior to the service at the church. Cremation rites have been accorded and burial of ashes will be in Springdale Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the IVY Boating Foundation, the Peoria Rotary North Foundation, St. Pauls Episcopal Church, or to a charity of the donors choice.
