Obituaries
Born on June 21, 1943 to Mike and Betty (Tamer) Joseph. Dave grew up on the southside of Peoria, working in his parents’ small grocery store and learning the value of hard work, honesty, and generosity from his mother, father, brothers and the many aunts, uncles and cousins in the extended family.
Dave married Sharyn L. Allen on August 25, 1968 in Chicago, IL. She survives and they cherished 53 years of marriage. Together Dave and Sharyn raised a wonderful family of five sons and one daughter: David II (Tressa) of Dunlap, Bill (Shelly) of Peoria, Dan (Kelly) of Dunlap, Bryan (Olivia) of O’Fallon, MO, Denise (John) Navetta and Brad (Sheena) both of Peoria. They are also proud grandparents of 22 grandchildren: Connor, Spencer, Alyssa, Christian, David III, Zachary, Natalie, Carmen, Charlie, Maria, Ashley, Blake, Joey, Katie, Annabelle, Brianna, Jack, Gianna, Faith, Johnny, Molly and Jude, Dave also has one brother, Maurice Joseph of East Peoria.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Leon.
Dave graduated from Spalding Institute and Bradley University, in Peoria, where he was member of Theta Xi Fraternity and formed many friendships that lasted a lifetime.
Dave chose real estate as a career and first worked for a leading Chicago commercial real estate firm, Baird and Warner. Dave’s career eventually brought him back to Peoria, where he worked for Commercial National Realty before starting his own firm, David Joseph Realtors Developers. His company evolved over the years, eventually becoming The D. Joseph Companies. The companies built, leased and owned numerous shopping centers, office complexes, medical facilities and restaurants throughout Central Illinois and the United States. Dave was a developer, ahead of his time, who contributed much to the growth of Peoria.
Dave’s most treasured contributions were his commitments to his Catholic faith and his family. He was a founding and faithful member of St. Sharbel Catholic Maronite Church in Peoria. Coincidentally, Dave was granted the Pontifical Honor of Knight St. Gregory the Great by His Holiness Pope John Paul II, recognizing his kindness, generosity to his church, and caring for his community and fellowman exactly 28 years prior to his day of passing, on April 23, 1994. A man of strong faith, he lived a quiet life of dedication and unconditional love for his family.
Dave had a blessed life, filled with love, success and many good deeds. He will be greatly missed and remembered for the good man he was.
