Obituary for David J. Matranga
David J. Matranga, 85, of Peoria, passed away on Wednesday, May 4th 2022 in Peoria, IL.
He was born on November 28, 1936 in Brooklyn, NY to Paul A. and Elda Matranga. He married Kathryn I. Weakley on October 3, 1970 in Peoria, IL. She preceded him in death on November 9, 2020 in Peoria.
He is survived by four children: David F. (Tammy) of Mapleton, IL, Michelle (Erik Aaron) of Peoria, IL, Anthony of Peoria, IL, and Nicholas (Melissa) of Peoria, IL, as well as five grandchildren, Anthony, Alex, Andrew, Ava, and Katie. David was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Paul C. Matranga, and two sisters Debbie Pirnar and Jean Watt.
David attended Spaulding Institute in Peoria, IL. He was a devout Catholic his entire life and worked multiple jobs throughout his lifetime creating lifelong friendships. He was a hard worker with a strong work ethic his entire life, including retiring from the Illinois Air National Guard 182nd Airlift Wing, Carpenter from Local 237 as well as owning several local businesses.
David cherished having his family all together at the house for talking and reminiscing, about family history. He valued his family, his faith, education and friendships. We were blessed to be part of his family and we will miss his guidance and support in ways that can never be conveyed.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at Wright & Salmon Mortuary. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 12, 2022 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, where additional visitation will be held one hour prior to Mass. Father Stephen Willard will officiate and entombment will follow in Resurrection Mausoleum.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Association.
