Obituary for Daniel Patrick Daly
Daniel Patrick Daly, 65, of Peoria passed away unexpectedly on Monday, December 20th, 2021, at his home.
He was born on November 30, 1956, in Peoria, Illinois, son of John J. and Mary S. (Hibser) Daly. He married his lifelong sweetheart Sherry Lynn O’Neill on July 5, 1980 in Peoria, IL. She survives.
Also surviving are his children, Maggie (Clark) Halstead of Virginia Beach, VA; Bridget Daly of Norfolk, VA; Maureen (Robert) Smith III of Bloomington, IN; and Patrick Daly of Peoria. He had 6 grandchildren: Elizabeth, Catherine, Edmund and Mary Halstead; Bobby IV and Chloe Smith; 2 brothers Michael (Sally) of Moline, IL; Robert (Denise) of Davenport, FL; and his favorite sister Mary Jo (William) Murphy of Bloomington, IL also survive are 2 sisters-in-law Jayne (Joel) Van Ness of West Peoria, IL and Peggy O’Neill of West Peoria, IL; his mother-in-law Ruth O’Neill also survives. Dan had 14 nieces and nephews and 9 great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law, Jerry O’Neill, and 2 great nieces.
Dan was President and CEO of SENB Bank, serving the Quad Cities Illinois-Iowa metropolitan area. He was elected Chairman of the Illinois Bankers Association (IBA) in 2018. He served on the IBA Board since 2009.
Over the last 30 years, Daly served in executive roles with several financial institutions prior to joining SENB Bank. He was the Founding President and Chief Executive Officer of First Capital Bank, which opened its doors for business in 1996, becoming the first new bank chartered in Peoria, Illinois in over 27 years. First Capital Bank's assets grew from $5.3 million at inception to over $254 million in six years. First Capital Bank was acquired by First Busey Corp. in 2004 and Daly served as a Regional President for Busey Bank following this transaction.Â
Daly is a 1974 graduate of Spalding Institute and a 1977 graduate of Bradley University with BS in Accounting. A certified public accountant, he focused his career on the financial services industry, beginning as an auditor and consultant with KPMG Peat Marwick in the late '70s.
Daly was actively involved in community efforts, and he served on the boards of Empower Illinois, Renew Moline, Gilmore Foundation, and Regional Opportunities Council. He was the Chairman of the Board of Directors for SAL Family and Community Services and the American Red Cross. Daly was a member of CEO Council, Focus Forward CI, and honored as a 40 leaders under 40 in 1996 and alumnus of the year in 2014. Dan was the Country Club of Peoria Treasurer several years. Previously, he served in leadership roles on the boards of the Heart of Illinois United Way (and chaired its 1999 annual campaign), the Peoria Symphony Orchestra, Catholic Charities, the Finance Council of the Catholic Diocese of Peoria, the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Peoria, the EPIC Foundation, the Tri-County Urban League, the Community Foundation of Central Illinois, Human Service Center and Human Service Center Foundation, FC Peoria Soccer Club, and the Peoria Park District Foundation and Fayette Companies. He also chaired the Peoria County unit of the American Cancer Society and chaired that organization's statewide fund-raising efforts. He served as chair and treasurer of the Peoria Civic Center Authority and Co-Chaired the $60 million redevelopment in 2005. He also served as Chairman of the Peoria Riverfront Museum and co-chaired the construction of their $35 million museum development in 2012.Â
Dan was an active member of St. Philomena Catholic Church in Peoria. He served as Lector and Eucharistic Minister, and was a Finance Committee member.
Dan’s most important priority was his family and friends. He was a wonderful Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, and friend to all.
A visitation will be held at St. Philomena Catholic Church on Sunday, December 26, 2021 from 3 to 6 p.m. A Funeral mass will be at St. Philomena Catholic Church on Monday December 27, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. with a visitation one hour before the service at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Marys Cemetery in West Peoria.
