Obituary for Daniel J. Smith, Sr.
Daniel J. Smith, Sr., age 81, passed away on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at his residence in Peoria.
Dan was born on November 24, 1941 in Peoria, a son of Eldrick F. and Virginia (Gallagher) Smith. He married Mary Charlene “Char” Bowers on May 19, 1962 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Peoria. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Lori (Rob) Jones of Peoria and Molly (Ron) Burns of Brimfield, two sons, Dan (Angie) Smith, Jr., of Peoria and Ed (Trish) Smith of Kewanee, IL, 12 grandchildren, Katie and Alex Jones, Charlie, Jonathan, Dan and Sarah Smith, Ronnie, Mary and Jimmy Burns, Ryan, Alex and Landon Smith, 4 great-grandchildren, one sister, Mary Margaret Murphy of Rushville, IL as well as many nieces and nephews.
Dan was preceded in death his parents and four brothers, Eldrick, Tom, Larry and Dave.
Dan was a lifelong salesman retiring from Fortner Insurance Company. He was an active and involved member of his church and the community. He was instrumental in the CURSILLO and TEC programs. He loved Bradley Basketball and being a member of the Braves Club.
A Funeral Mass will be at 12:00 PM on Friday, December 2, 2022 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church. Visitation begins at 10:00 AM until time of Mass. Fr. Jeremy Freehill will officiate. Cremation Rites will be accorded after services. Burial of ashes will take place at a later date at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Kickapoo, IL.
The “Chiclet Man” will be dearly missed!
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Midwest Affiliate or St. Ann’s Catholic Church.
