Obituary for Craig Steven Leibel

Craig Steven Leibel, 57, died at 6:14 a.m. at Cartersville Medical
Center in Cartersville, GA on July 8, 2021. Born on June 11, 1964
to Lonny R. Leibel and Judith K. Gutierrez in Peoria, IL, he married
Derrisa Ray on July 1, 1994 in Ringgold, GA.

She survives along with two brothers; Christopher Leibel of Peoria and Carl (Kim) Leibel of
Dunlap. Craig has one son in Georgia, Steven Leibel, two step-sons,
Dustin Ray, and Shane Blackerby. Craig had several aunts, uncles,
and many nephews, nieces and cousins.

He attended St. Philomena and Holy Family Grade Schools, then graduated from
Chillicothe High School. When he was 21, he ventured out to Georgia
with some friends and established a trade as a carpenter, eventually
having his own crew.

God gave Craig the innate talent to create decks, porches and pagodas
that were customized to enhance the properties of many homes.
Because of this ability he had a website and was sought out individually
to create these works of art. Craig loved what he did and was proud
of his work. He was once on a magazine cover with his deck work.

He loved to play chess and cards with his brothers and also liked
making pinewood derby cars with his father. He enjoyed our family
fishing trips to Minnesota, and renting a cabin during Caterpillar vacation.
When we visited Craig and Derrisa, Dustin and Steven, we would picnic
and Jet ski on the Lake Allatoona. Craig was a very kind, loving, hard-working,
strong-willed son and had a big heart and good sense of humor.
He will be dearly missed by all.

A memorial mass will be on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at 11 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church.
Franciscan Friars will officiate.

Visitation will be from 10 AM until the time of the mass at 11 AM.

Cremation rites have been accorded and burial of cremains will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.

Wright & Salmon Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Family Parish in Craig’s name.

Friends may sign the online guestbook or send condolences to www.wrightandsalmon.com
