Obituary for Craig J. Tanner

PEORIA-Craig J. Tanner, 39, of Frisco, TX and formerly of Peoria for 38 years, passed away in a single car accident on August 30, 2009, at Presbyterian Hospital of Denton in Texas. He was born on October 23, 1969, in Peoria to Charles “Tom” and Beverly Pilger Tanner. He married Susan Triplett on March 24, 2001 in Peoria. She survives. He is also survived by his parents of Peoria; three children, Caleb, Josie and Colin all of Frisco, TX; two sisters, Alicia (Andrew) Swanson and Angie (Joe) Kelly both of Peoria; two brothers, Chuck (Heidi) Tanner of Bartonville and Chris (Brandi) Tanner of Tinley Park; his grandmother, Cecilia “Cy” Pilger of Canton; sister-in-law, Cathy Ballew of Champaign, brother-in-law, Gene (Diane) Triplett of Monticello, sister-in-law, Mary (Shawn) Davis of Fithian, IL, sister-in-law, Betsy (Tony) Champ of Hebron, KY, brother-in-law, Kevin (Sandra) Triplett of Powder Springs, GA, sister-in-law, Pattie (Gene) Storer of Bourbonnais, brother-in-law, Joe (Michelle) Triplett of Bloomington and sister-in-law, Laura (Aaron) Fisher of Washington, IA; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Joe and Jo Triplett of Washington, IA; eighteen nephews; twenty four nieces; four grand nephews and six grand nieces. He was preceded in death by his fraternal grandparents, Charles M. and O’Greta Tanner and his maternal grandfather, George J. Pilger. Craig was Assistant Director of Accounting at PCCEO in Peoria. He was a 1988 graduate of Spalding, the last graduating class before the merger. He was a 1992 graduate of Culver-Stockton College earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and St. Francis of Assisi in Frisco, TX. “Craig will be remembered for his total and complete devotions to his family and his faith in God. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, friend and coach. He was passionate about being surrounded by his large family, his love of sports and his many fishing trips with his children, father, brothers, nieces and nephews.” “After finishing his college football career, Craig remained active in a variety of sports for himself and his children. He was an avid sports fan and coach.” “He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. His gift for constant encouragement and generosity for those around him will not be forgotten.” A Funeral Mass will held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at St. Vincent de Paul Church with his uncle, Rev. Rick Pilger, I.C. and Rev. Dustin Schultz officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Monday at the church with a Prayer Vigil Service at 8 p.m. Additional visitation will be one hour before the mass at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in West Peoria. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Craig Tanner Children’s Education Fund c/o CEFCU.
