PEORIA ~ Connie Lynn Sullivan, 73, of Peoria, passed away at 5:54 p.m. Thursday, December 15, 2022 at Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.
Born November 13, 1949 in Peoria to Rydene and Winifred (Duval) Amundsen, she married Gary Sullivan on August 15, 1971 in Peoria. He survives.
Also surviving are one son, Ryan (Amanda) Sullivan of Arnold, Missouri; three daughters, Stacy (Ryan) Feek of McFarland, Wisconsin, Lindsay (Andrew McElmeel) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Kylie (Matt) Decker of East Peoria; six grandchildren, Molly Sullivan, Jack Sullivan, Avery Feek, Luke Person, Tyler Person, and Kenzie Person; two brothers, Ron (Gisel) Amundsen of Costa Rica and James (Kandi) Amundsen of Peoria; and one sister, Nancy (Bob) Davis of Peoria. Connie also leaves behind a very special student, Arsenio Davis, who she welcomed into her family and her home.
Connie’s parents preceded her in death.
She had worked as a special needs teacher for Peoria District 150 schools. Her career started in 1989, teaching in the Children’s Home in Peoria. In 1992, she began teaching at Woodruff High School until her retirement in 2005. While teaching, she also served the school as the coach of the bowling team, the boys golf team, and sponsor of the cheerleading sponsor and Key club. She also enjoyed being part of the W.O.W. (Women of Woodruff) Club. She touched the lives of many students over the years. She also had tutored and mentored many students throughout her career.
Golf was a part of Connie’s life throughout the years. She had played while attending ISU at a time when they didn’t have a Women’s Golf team. She was later awarded a varsity letter by the University when they eventually developed a woman’s team. In 1988, Connie won the 9 Hole Women’s Championship in Peoria at Northmoor Golf Course. She continued to enjoy playing golf at her winter home in The Villages, Florida, with may new and lifelong friends.
Connie enjoyed being part of the Class of 1967 Richwoods High School Reunion Committee for many years with her husband. She also loved her monthly Bunco group, with whom she made many memories over the nearly 40 years they gathered. Connie’s most loved activity was watching her grandchildren in their many sports and activities, as well as entertaining her friends and family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at University United Methodist Church. Rev. Ethan Carnes will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Wright & Salmon Mortuary. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Dean Hage Memorial Fund benefiting special education majors at ISU or to the Illinois Cancer Care Foundation.
