Obituaries
PEORIA-Clifton Hjort, 85, of Peoria, passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth, MN. He was born on October 12, 1925, in Two Harbors, MN to Albert and Matilda Strom Hjort. He married Eugenia M. Stern on April 28, 1952, in Miami, FL. She passed away on August 7, 2002, in Peoria. He was also preceded in death by one brother and two sisters. Clif is survived by three sons, Christopher (Donna) Hjort of Peoria, Erik (Melissa) Hjort of Peoria and Jonathan (Pam) Hjort of Chillicothe; one daughter, Lisa (Mark) White of Peoria; five grandchildren; and a loving companion, Nancy Ford of Deerfield Beach, FL. Clif was a Base Manager for Eastern Airlines from 1950-1970; General Manager for Jumer’s Castle Lodge from 1970-1980; General Manager for Heritage House Smorgasbord; Manager at Carnegie’s/The Hotel Pere Marquette, last working as a Mater De at Jim’s Bistro. He was a World War II Air Force veteran. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He loved to spend his summers at his cabin in Northern Minnesota at Bassett Lake and his winters in Deerfield Beach, FL, and thought he was Fred Astaire, and also had a wonderful sense of humor. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at St. Philomena Catholic Church with Rev. Charles Klamut officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the Mass at the church. Cremation rites have been accorded. Burial of ashes will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
