Obituary for Chick Charles Giovani
PEORIA - “Chick” Charles Michael Giovani, 79, of Peoria passed away at 9:39 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15, 2016, at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home.
Chick was born on Feb. 2, 1936, in Chicago to the late Charles and Katherine (Dierking) Castrogiovani. He married Sharon Boyne on Sept. 12, 1964, in Chicago. She survives.
He is also survived by his children, Mike (Debbie) Giovani, of North Aurora, Joe (Tracey) Giovani, of Peoria, and Maria Giovani, of Chicago. He was the proud grandfather and uncle of many.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Barbara Prietz.
After high school, Chick attended an electrical trade school. He worked for Western Union for 32 years and later as a salesman for Bradfield Computers.
He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Peoria, their Men’s Club, and the Knights of Columbus in the Chicago area.
He was an avid sports fan, loved the White Sox, and coached baseball for many years.
He also loved attending and hearing about his grandchildrens’ activities and sporting events.
A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, 2016, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Father Dustin Schultz will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2016, at Wright & Salmon Mortuary. An additional visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Heading Avenue Franciscans, St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, or in Chick’s name to a charity of the donor’s choice.
