Obituary for Charles N. "Chuck" Ginoli

PEORIA-Charles N. “Chuck” Ginoli, 88 of Peoria, passed away at 7:15 a.m. on Sunday, October 8, 2006 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center. Born on May 7, 1918 in Spring Valley, IL to Alfonso A. and Amelia Beltramini Ginoli. He married Betty Ann Kipfer on November 21, 1959 in Peoria. She survives. Also surviving are one son, James (Mets) Ginoli of Peoria and one brother, Gene (Joann) Ginoli of Peoria. He was preceded in death by one sister. Mr. Ginoli was a native of Peoria and a graduate of Peoria Manual High School and the University of Illinois in 1940. He also studied at Northwestern University. He was a Certified Public Accountant and spent over 60 years in public accounting. He began his accounting career with the national firm, Deloitte & Touche in Chicago. In 1951, he formed his own firm, Ginoli & Company, Ltd. and was its President and managing officer for 35 years, before retirement. In recent years, he has been an advisor to several corporations on accounting matters as a sole practitioner in his profession. Mr. Ginoli has long been active in transportation affairs and for many years was Chairman of the Peoria Association of Commerce Street Highway Safety Committee. For 36 years, he was a member of the City of Peoria Traffic Commission and was its chairman in four of those years. In April 1970, he was elected Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the newly formed Greater Peoria Mass Transit District; and served as chairman seven consecutive terms until his retirement. The Peoria District has become a model for many cities in the country. In 1985, he was appointed by President Ronald Reagan to the Columbus Quincentenary Commission, the official organization authorized by Congress to plan the 1992 celebration of the 500th anniversary of Christopher Columbus discovery of the new world. In 1991, he was named an honorary life member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and in 1999, he was elected to the level of Distinguished Member of the Illinois CPA Society. In 1991, he received Co-worker of the year award from the Sisters of St. Francis of the Immaculate Conception (Heading Avenue Franciscan sisters). In 1992, he received the annual award from the Illinois Rail Passengers Association for his work on rail passenger initiatives. He was a member and past president of the Italian American Society of Peoria and was also a life member of Mt. Hawley Country Club. He was a member of St. Thomas Parish in Peoria Heights where a funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday with Msgr. William A. Watson, Rev. David Kipfer and Rev. Michael Driscoll will officiate. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday at Wright & Salmon Mortuary with recitation of the rosary at 7:45 p.m. Additional visitation will be 30 minutes before the mass at church.
