Obituary for Charles H. Hofer

PEORIA - Charles H. Hofer, 78, of Peoria passed away at 8:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2014, at Richard L. Owens Hospice Home surrounded by his loving family. Chuck was born on July 14, 1936, in Peoria to Charles H. and Martha Schimpff Hofer. They preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his grandparents and a great-niece. He is survived by his sisters, Jeanne Donahue and Mary McCann both of Peoria; nieces, Kathleen Donahue of Peoria and Mary Pat Donahue of Chicago; nephews, Dan Donahue of Peoria, Chuck (Tracy) Donahue of Chicago, Matt Donahue of New Berlin, Wisc., Jeff McCann of Lexington, Ky., Luke McCann of Silverthorne, Colo.; a stepdaughter, Chrissy Gamache (Jon) Willoughby of Clinton; and stepsons, Dan Gamache of Clinton and David (Kelly) Gamache of Veneta, Ore. He is also survived by a great-nephew and great-niece, Nicholas and Abby McCann; and a number of cousins. While Chuck served in the U.S. Army, he was stationed in Japan. Following his discharge, he worked in the western states as a photographer for many years. In 1977, while there, he married Patricia Gamache in Seattle, Wash., and became stepfather to her three children. Then the family returned to Peoria, where he owned and operated Photo Enterprises Photography Studio for over 30 years. Chuck was a member of the Association of Professional Photographers of Illinois, the Photographic Society of America, the Professional Wedding and Portrait Photographers Association, the Sertoma Club, Cursillo, Central Illinois Right to Life, and was a life member of the Knights of Columbus, Spalding Council # 427, Third Degree. Before and after retirement, Chuck enjoyed travel, scenic and nature photography, golf, and time with family and friends. After retirement, he also enjoyed his volunteer work with the West/Mark Food Pantry and the Neighborhood House Meals on Wheels program. The family wishes to express its sincerest thanks to the staff at St. Joseph’s Home in Lacon and the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria for their kindness and loving care during Chuck’s final months. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 10, 2014, at St. Mark Catholic Church. Father Geoffrey Horton will officiate. Visitation will be from 3-6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 9, 2014, at Wright & Salmon Mortuary, with recitation of the Rosary at 6 p.m. An additional visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Family Resources Center in Peoria. Tributes and condolences may be submitted to
