PEORIA~ Charles “Chuck” Biggins, 88, of Peoria, passed away at 10:28 a.m. Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home.
Chuck was born January 15, 1935 at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Peoria to Charles and Mary Ellen (Atkins) Biggins. He graduated from St. Bernard’s Catholic School and later, Spalding Institute in 1953. He had also attended Xavier University in Cincinnati and Bradley University in Peoria.
He married Laureen Hibser at St. Philomena Catholic Church in Peoria on April 19, 1958. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Laurie (Jim) Schaefer of Allen, Texas and Lynne (John) Egan of Danville, California. He was a proud Grandpa to four grandsons, Charles “CJ” (Jordan) Egan of San Diego, California, Kyle Egan of Salt Lake City, Utah, Jim Schaefer of Austin, Texas and Nick Schaefer of Lakewood, Colorado; and one great-grandson, Grayson Egan. They were a source of great joy and happiness to him.
Chuck was a current member of the Ivy Club, where he served as Rear Commodore and Vice Commodore, the Knights of Columbus, St. Clement Council and was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Peoria. He had been a member, and was supportive of Friends of Fatherless boys, Hooked on Fishing, and the Guadelupe Catholic Charities of Immokalee, Florida. He was a past member of Creve Coeur Club, and had served as past President of the Independent Sportsman Club. Chuck was an avid Notre Dame fan, always cheering for his beloved fighting Irish.
He enjoyed playing golf, fishing, and hunting. He also loved sailing his boat on the Illinois River and on the many sailing trips with friends to the Caribbean and the South Pacific. He also spent 20 years wintering in Naples Florida where he enjoyed fishing and boating.
He worked as Vice President of Illinois Mutual Insurance, retiring after 30 years of service.
Chuck’s Memorial Mass will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 20, 2023 at St. Jude Catholic Church in Peoria. Father Henehan will officiate. Visitation will be from noon to 1:30 p.m., prior to the service at the church.
