Obituary for Catherine E. Rees

Washington- Catherine Elizabeth (Young) Rees, 82, of Washington, IL, passed away on Friday, June 11, 2021 at Lutheran Hillside Village in Peoria, IL.
Catherine was born October 8, 1938 in Peoria, the daughter of James Cecil and June Pearl (Siverly) Young. Catherine is survived by her husband Jim Butler of Washington, IL, step-children, Brenda (Michael) Smith of Peoria, Jay Butler (Chris Sinclair) of Eugene, OR and David Rees of Peoria, AZ, step-grandchildren, Erik and Tyler Smith of Peoria, IL, Tyler Rees of Valley Park, MO, Kelly Rees of Clinton, TN and Shelly Rees of Naperville, IL, nephews, Craig Young of South Pekin and Terry (Wendy) Young of Metamora, IL, niece Karen Ortega of Peoria, IL, daughter-in-law, Joy Rees of Bartonville, and one step-greatgrandchild, Evie very close friend Lori Koutelis of Parrish, FL, as well as several great nieces and nephews and her beloved chocolate lab, Desi.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Cecil Dwayne Young, step-son, Patrick Butler and her beloved dogs, Josie and Jack.
Catherine graduated from Woodruff High School in 1956 and later received her Associate’s Degree from ICC as a paralegal. She worked for many years at WABCO/Komatsu Dresser and later went on to work at OSF Healthcare Hospice, retiring in 2017. She was a member of the Mid-Illinois Corvette Club and enjoyed racing her treasured Corvettes. She loved animals and gave a wonderful home to many rescue dogs over the years.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at 10:30 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Visitation begins at 9:00 AM until time of mass. Msgr. Jason Gray will officiate and burial will follow at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
The family would like to thank the staff at Lutheran Hillside Village and her caregivers through OSF Hospice for their loving care. A special thank you to her friend and caregiver, Sheila Spangler.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to OSF Healthcare Hospice, St. Jude Midwest Affiliate, Foster Pet Outreach or TAPS in Pekin, IL.
