Obituary for Carrie Lucille Leitner
PEORIA – Carrie Lucille Leitner, 91, of Peoria passed away at 11:57 a.m. Thursday, April 21, 2016, at UnityPoint Health – Proctor surrounded by her family.
Carrie was born on Jan. 11, 1925, in Brownsville, Ky., to the late Jessie Hamilton and Wanda Dee (Johnson) Skaggs. She married Owen Leitner on Nov. 3, 1956, in Peoria. He preceded her in death on Sept. 26, 2015.
She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Ben Skaggs, Ernest W. Skaggs, Monte Skaggs, and D.H. Skaggs; and four sisters, Gwendoline(Julius) Evans, Arlene (J.H.) Johnson, Dale Wolfram, and Louise (Gene) Vaughn.
She is survived by her children, Catherine Leitner of Peoria and Ronald (Lisa) Leitner of Edelstein, Ill.; three grandsons, Seth (Maria) Leitner, Jesse Leitner, and Zachary Leitner; two great-grandsons, Brek and Izaak; one sister Doris (Ned) Powell of Orange City, Fla.; One sister-in-law Bonnie Skaggs of Ohio; as well as, many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Carrie graduated from Hartford High School.
She was a former member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and a current member of St. Jude Catholic Church.
Carrie was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a woman of strong faith and she never met a stranger. Carrie loved watching her favorite baseball team, the St. Louis Cardinals play. She will be greatly missed by her family and her many friends.
A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday April 28, 2016, at St. Jude Catholic Church. Fr. John Verrier and Fr. Patrick Henehan will officiate. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday April 27, 2016, at Wright & Salmon Mortuary, with recitation of the Rosary at 6:45 p.m. An additional visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the Mass at the church. A private graveside service will be in Lancaster Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the OSF Children’s Hospital.
