Obituary for Carol McDonald

Peoria - Carol Jean McDonald, 80, of Carmel, Indiana (Formerly of Peoria), entered eternal life on April 16, 2021.

She was born to the late Vernon and Florence Planck, November 12, 1940, in Peoria, Illinois. Carol graduated from Woodruff High School in 1958 and then with distinction from Bradley University and later from Methodist College of Nursing.

She married the love of her life, Jerry McDonald, in 1967, and together they raised their three sons, in Peoria, before relocating to Carmel, in 2013. Carol and Jerry enjoyed 53 years of marriage. Carol is survived by her husband, as well as her three sons: Kevin (Hang) McDonald, of Wausau, Wisconsin; Brian (Mindy) McDonald, of Carmel; and Greg McDonald, of Carmel. She is also survived by her two brothers: Robert (Pam) Planck, of Austin, Texas and John (Judy) Planck, of Peoria; her two sister-in- laws: Patricia King, of Madison, Wisconsin and Julie McDonald, of Texas; her five grandchildren: Alexandria, Elizabeth, Ben, Hope and Luke; and her many nieces and nephews. Carol was preceded in death by her two brother-in- laws: Paul King and Larry McDonald and three grandchildren: Brooke, Madison and B.B.

Carol was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She worked selflessly as a nurse for over 30 years at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria. She was a voracious reader, loved musicals and enjoyed spending countless hours talking on the telephone to friends and family. She was a passionate and lifelong fan of Bradley basketball and was never shy about sharing her basketball acumen. However, once she was blessed with grandchildren, her passion was re-directed to them. Until sickness took away her mobility, she could always be counted on to be there for her grandchildren, at all of the important moments of their young lives. She adored and was immensely proud of them.

A visitation will be held on Monday, April 26, 2021, from 11 AM until 12 PM at Wright & Salmon Mortuary located at 2416 N. North Street, Peoria, Illinois. A private graveside service will follow at Resurrection Cemetery and Mausoleum. Deacon Robert Myers will officiate.
