Obituary for Carol Ann Smiles
Peoria- Carol Ann Smiles, 87, of Peoria, Illinois, passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter on April 10, 2022.
Carol was born in Peoria, Illinois to Charles J. and Edna T. (Monroe) Glaczenski on June 25, 1934. After graduating from Woodruff High School in 1952 she went on to work as an office worker, then as a hairdresser. Along with being a homemaker and mother she continued to work learning various skills as a machine operator/hand picker for Hiram Walker’s Distillery from 1967 to 1980. Continuing her education, she received her Associates Degree in General Education from Illinois Central College in 1985 and then her nursing degree. She went on to serve those in need until her retirement in 2009.
Carol loved music and the arts, was very talented with drawing, painting, quilting, crochet, writing and poetry. She had a beautiful voice, singing in church choirs and was a member of the Heart of Illinois Chorus of Sweet Adelines International throughout her life.
She is survived by her two daughters: Cynthia Smiles of Peoria, and Lisa Delaney of Antelope, California; one son Andrew Lutz of Creve Couer; one stepdaughter Janet (Randall) Barnes of Indianapolis; two grandchildren: Lauren Bongartz and Nicholas Lutz; as well as a combined seven great-grandchildren and step=great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Edna Glaczenski of Peoria Heights, one sister Norma Hobler of Lincoln, Illinois and one granddaughter Sara Bongartz of Antelope, California.
A private graveside service was held in Parkview Cemetery.
