Obituary for Carmelita "Carm" Statler

Carmelita Mary Statler, 90, of Peoria, Illinois, passed away on Monday, December 12, 2022 at Buehler Home.

Born March 31, 1932 in Peoria to Peter and Emma 'Rita' (Hagemann) Will. She married Samuel Gene Statler on April 11, 1953 in Peoria at St. Boniface Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on October 15, 2021 in Peoria.

Carm was also preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Gerald, one son Bradley Michael Statler and one daughter, Angela Marie Statler. She thought a lot of her relatives, many who are deceased, and her five aunts who were in the convent. Her husband and children always came first.

Surviving are two grandchildren, Mary Elmore and Kelly Goldsmith.

Carmelita graduated from Manual High School and completed two years at Illinois Central College. She worked ten years as a secretary at R.G. LeTourneau, Inc, and their successor companies. Later, she retired from the University of Illinois College of Medicine.

Carm and Gene were members of St. Philomena Church since 1953. They took summer camping trips with their children to 48 states. In later years, they loved to spend time at their vacation home in Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri. They also enjoyed trips to different places and playing golf at famous courses. They were honorary life members of Mt. Hawley Country Club, having joined in 1965.

Her activities included swimming, biking, sledding, bowling, sewing, and cooking, but her favorite was golfing with Gene and friends and she loved playing games with their children.

Many thanks to Buehler Home for providing great care for the Statler family.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at Resurrection Mausoleum Chapel, with visitation from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Fr. David Richardson will officiate and entombment will follow at the Mausoleum.
