Obituary for Carma G. McClung
Decatur- Carma G. McClung, age 87, of Decatur, formerly Peoria, passed away on January 13, 2018 at her daughter’s home holding her hand.

Carma was born July 17, 1930 in Seattle, Washington to Leslie W. and Geraldine (Mahana) Sears. She attended grade and high school in Seattle, and went on to receive her bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Washington. Afterwards Carma traveled to Honolulu, HI with a group of friends where she ended up meeting the love of her life, James E. McClung, and within three months of meeting, on September 7, 1951 they married and enjoyed 52 years of marriage until his passing on November 03, 2003.

Carma traveled around the United States following her husband’s baseball career, finally settling in Peoria. She worked as an Executive Secretary to the Medical Director at Proctor Hospital. Carma assisted with the West Peoria Real Estate taxes and taught second grade at St. Mark Catholic School on a at need basis. She enjoyed golfing and swimming and was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Decatur. Carma loved being active and spending time with her friends, but the most cherished part of her life was spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include two children: Sheila McClung of Decatur and James R. McClung of Peoria; the light of her life granddaughters Katy Karns of Oakland, Calif., and Morgan (Drew) Benton of Rockford, MI; as well as her best friends Murt and Peggy.

Carma was preceded in death by her parents, husband James, first born son in 1952, one daughter Michelle Karns in 2013, and her pride and joy grandson James C. Earl McClung in 2014, and two sisters: Teddy and Linda.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2018 between the hours of 5:00 PM till 7:00 PM at Wright & Salmon Mortuary. Following visitation cremation rights will be accorded. A memorial mass will be held on Friday, January 19, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St. Mark Catholic Church. An additional visitation will be held 30 minutes prior to mass. Msgr. Brian Brownsey will officiate and burial will take place at a later date.

The family wishes to thank Ruth, Amber, Shelly, Pam, & Brittany for their assistance in helping the family to care for their mother at home, to Jim and Sue Billingesly, and a special thanks to Dawne for your loyalty, kindness and provision of good care to our mother this last year.

In lieu of flowers memorials in Carma’s memory may be made to the Decatur Humane Society or to St. Thomas Catholic Church in Decatur.

Patrick O’Reilly wrote a poem entitled “Wonderful Mother” it states, “God made a wonderful mother, a mother who never grows old; He made her smile of the sunshine, and he molded her heart of pure gold; in her eyes he placed shinning stones, in her cheeks fair roses you see; God made a wonderful mother, and he gave that mother to us.
