Obituary for Carlanne R. Lovestrand

PEORIA ~ Carlanne Ruck Lovestrand, 76, of Peoria passed away at 1:45 p.m. on Sunday, May 24, 2009 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center. She was born on December 29, 1932 in Wahoo, Nebraska to Wilbert and Lila (Charling) Ruck. Carlanne married her only love Gordon in Sterling, Illinois on August 22, 1953. Carlanne and Gordon were married 55 years. He died on September 2, 2008 and they will now be joined for all eternity with their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Surviving are one daughter, Tracy (James Boyle) Lovestrand of Peoria; three sons, Tom (Marian Cosmides) Lovestrand of Des Plaines, Ted (Georgean) Lovestrand and Tyler (Ashley) Lovestrand, both of Peoria; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Lovestrand, T.J. Lovestrand, MacKenzie Lovestrand, Connor Boyle, Jordan Boyle, Joshua Boyle, Chelsea Lovestrand, and Peyton Lovestrand; one brother Bill (Bev) Ruck of Peoria, and two sisters-in-law, Shirlee (Fred) Collins of Hoffman Estates and Marilyn Lovestrand of Burnsville, Minnesota. Carlanne graduated from Sterling Township High School in Sterling, Illinois where she enjoyed writing for the school newspaper and was a National Honor Society member earning a scholarship to the University of Illinois. There she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. She met Gordon in 1950. She worked at Caterpillar to help put him through college. Following Gordon's graduation, they lived in Redbank, New Jersey and at Fort Gordon in Georgia. Settling in Peoria, Carlanne raised her children and entered Bradley University graduating in 1969 with a bachelors degree in education. She was a substitute teacher in the Peoria School District for 5 years and in 1974 she took a full-time teaching position at Pleasant Valley School where she remained for 25 years. Carlanne was passionate about the 7th and 8th grade students she taught. She retired in 1999. Carlanne attended First Methodist Church in her youth. She was a member of University United Methodist Church and attended Grace Presbyterian Church. Our mom was a faithful wife, mother and friend. She had an empathetic heart and was a fantastic listener. She invested in people with her time, her money, and her emotion. Mom was a peacemaker and a communicator. Nothing was more important in her life than her family. She had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ which gave her peace and hope. Mom was an eternal optimist, she never gave up. We will miss everything about you Mom! Say Hi to Dad. Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, May 29, 2009 at Grace Presbyterian Church. Pastor Bob Donaldson will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield.
