Obituary for Bonita Hietter
CANTON – Bonita “Bonnie” Hietter, 82, of Canton passed away at 8:20 p.m. Friday, May 13, 2016, at Farmington Country Manor.
Bonnie was born on Oct. 20, 1933, in Peoria to the late Glenn and Gertrude (Heinz) Dodd. She married Earl Hietter on July 9, 1955, in Kickapoo. He preceded her in death on Aug. 25, 2008.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Bill Hietter; one brother, Sam Dodd; and one sister, Sylvia Dodd.
She is survived by six children, Maria (Mark) Sommerville of Canton, Joseph (Pam) Hietter of Georgia, Angela (Joe) Beeney of Washington, Ill., Patrick (Traci) Hietter of Delavan, Ill., Lisa (Michael) Wanless of Washington, Ill., and Thomas (Jon) Hietter of Los Angeles; 21 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and four sisters, June McKown of Brimfield, Ruth Dodd of Yates City, Rita (Don) Vicary of Creve Coeur, and Rose Haynes of South Carolina.
Bonnie was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, the Catholic Women’s League, and Lay Missionary Group of Charity.
Bonnie was an amazing person and an awesome mom and grandma. She sought peace all her life and generously shared it with others. She now rests in that peace.
A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 20, 2016, at St. Thomas Catholic Church. Msgr. Jason Gray will officiate. Visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m. Friday prior to the Mass at the church, with recitation of the Rosary at 8:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery in Kickapoo. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is handling the arrangements.
