Joan was born July 30, 1932, in Arrowsmith, Ill., to Joseph and Doris (Weinard) Williams. She had one brother Jack, who with her parents, preceded her in death. She was raised on a farm in McLean County and attended LeRoy Community High School. After graduating, she worked at Miller Music Company, in Bloomington, Ill., where she met the love of her life, John Sleevar. They were married on Jan. 21, 1954. Both of her daughters were born in Bloomington, Ill. In 1958, they moved to Peoria, where she remained the rest of her life as a mother and homemaker.

Joan was an avid golfer and belonged to many golf leagues in Peoria throughout the years. She loved to play bridge, work in her yard, and cheer on the St. Louis Cardinals. She enjoyed visits with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was a loving mother to everyone in her family.
She was a member of St Vincent De Paul’s parish and volunteered for many things while the girls were in school. She also worked as a volunteer in the school office, participated as a Brownie and Girl Scout leader, and contributed many hand-made items to the Christmas Bazaars.
Per her wishes, cremation will be accorded and a private celebration of Joan’s life will be held at a later date this summer, when everyone in the family can attend. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is handling the arrangements.
Memorials in honor of Joan are suggested to St. Vincent Grade School.
