Obituary for Billy R. Craig
MORTON – Billy Ross Craig, 88, of Morton passed away at 10:20 a.m. Friday, March 25, 2016, at Morton Villa.
Billy was born on Sept. 22, 1927, in McLean County, Ill., to the late Charles Edgar and Mary Cosby (Ellis) Craig. He married Catherine A. Boling, Keckler in July 1960, at the Cathedral of St. Mary, Peoria. She passed away in December 1961. He later married Ines Marie Sparks, Agard on Dec. 27, 1965, at the Cathedral of St. Mary, Peoria. She preceded him in death in June 2004. He married Ethel Nelson in February 2006. She preceded him in death in December 2007.
He was also preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters.
He is survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Billy was a World War II veteran, serving in the US Marine Corp. He worked in planing at Caterpillar, where he worked for 36 years, retiring in 1983.
He was a member of the Cathedral of St. Mary in Peoria and the Knights of Columbus, Morton Council #4191, 3rd Degree. He was an honorary life member of the American Legion Post 2, past commander of the American Legion Peoria County Council. He was also a member of La Societe Des Quarante Hommes Et Hui Chevau, Chef de Gare Passe Peoria County Voiture Local 529, Third District of Illinois Cheminot Member Passe, Grand Chef De Gare Grand Voiture Du Illinois Passe, Nationale Cheminot Member Passe, and Great Lakes Regional President Passe. He was presently serving as correspondent and commissaire intendant of Peoria County Voiture LOCL 529 and was past president and current treasurer of the Peoria Memorial Association.
A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 31, 2016, at Resurrection Mausoleum Chapel. Msgr. Stanley Deptula will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass at the chapel. Entombment will be in Resurrection Mausoleum. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is handling the arrangements.
