Obituary for Betty D Kirwan
Peoria- Betty D. (White) Kirwan, age 93, of Peoria passed away Thursday March 17, 2016 at Heddington Oaks in West Peoria
Betty was born March 8, 1923 in rural Fulton County near London Mills, IL. She was the youngest daughter of Albert Ward and Edith (Hall) White. She graduated from London Mills High School in 1940. During World War II she moved to Peoria. Betty worked several jobs during her career, taking time off to raise her family. Her last job prior to retirement was at Bradley University where she was a secretary in the Department of English and Foreign Languages. Betty married William John Kirwan on June 24, 1950 at St. Mark Catholic Church in Peoria. He preceded her in death on September 28, 2001.
Survivors include one daughter, Cynthia (Ron) Carrington residing in Ft. Collins, CO, and two sons; John (Wendy) Kirwan residing in Leesburg, VA and Alan Kirwan (Jeanne Kitchens) residing in Springfield, IL. Betty and William (Bill) were wonderful grandparents to Hannah Carrington, Emma Kirwan, Will Kirwan, Logan Kitchens and Melissa Kirwan. Betty’s older sister Lois McAtee Robinson preceded her in death, as did two nephews, David Albert McAtee and Dale Keith McAtee.
Betty was very interested in genealogy. She and Bill spent many an hour researching ancestors in IL and Ohio. Her ancestry goes back to the Mayflower pilgrims.
Bill and Betty moved to Morton, IL in 1994 and Betty moved back to Peoria in 2009 to an apartment at Liberty Village. Betty was a past member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Morton.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday March 22, 2016 at Wright and Salmon Mortuary between the hours of 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, with recitation of the Rosary at 7 pm. An additional visitation will be held Wednesday March 23, 2016 from 9:30 am until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am at St. Mark Catholic Church. Fr. Geoffrey Horton will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Scleroderma Foundation, 300 Rosewood Dr Unit #105, Danvers, MA 01923 or OSF Children’s Hospital, Peoria.
