Obituary for Bette A. Schroeder

METAMORA - Bette Ann (Tower) Schroeder, 90, of Metamora, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2013, at 10:30 pm, with her son and daughter at her bedside. Bette was born in Fort Madison, Iowa, on July 25, 1923, the fourth daughter of James A. and Mabel (Werner) Tower. She married Frederick A. “Fritz” Schroeder. He preceded her in death. Bette was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Cynthia, Jean, and Jere; four children, Lawrence Schroeder, Frederick A. “Ric” Schroeder Jr., Mary Schroeder Sharif, and Annie Schroeder Crichton; and two granddaughters, Hyatt Ahlam Shariff and Maddie Brielle Allen. Bette is survived by her younger sister, Jackie Broderick of Florida; one daughter, Sister Jacqueline Schroeder, OSF, of Metamora; one son, John (Karrie) Schroeder of Elgin, AZ.; 10 grandchildren, LT (Heather) Schroeder of Birmingham, AL, Rebecca (Daren) Carlson of South Lee, MA, Eric (Francillia) Schroeder of Oxnard, CA, Bette Ann (Shawn) Dixon of Billings, MT, Frederick A. Schroeder III of Florida, Samuel Meyers (Kati) Schroeder of Seattle, WA, Luke Schroeder of Chicago, Ariel (Travis) Allen of Thermopolis, WY, Zack (Michelle) Crichton of Shoshoni, WY, and Zephyr Crichton (Austin Patzer) of Sheridan, WY; 13 great-grandchildren; and over 50 nieces and nephews. Bette’s family would like to offer special thanks to the staff and volunteers of Snyder Village for their excellent care over the past six years, to OSF Hospice for their loving and caring support over the past year, to her friends, the “Crazy Ladies”, who brought so much joy to her final years, and to her several nieces who many times came out of their way to visit her. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 7 p.m., Friday, August 23, 2013, at Immaculate Conception Convent, 2408 W. Heading Ave., Peoria, IL. Father Ron Dodd and Msgr. Michael Bliss will officiate. Visitation will be held from 1 – 5 p.m. prior to the Mass at the convent. Burial will be in Arizona at a later date. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Memorials in her name may be sent to Snyder Village in Metamora, IL or to the Sisters of St. Francis of the Immaculate Conception, Peoria, IL for their “Little Portion Grant Fund” which offers aid for the poor in different parts of the world.
