Obituary for Bernard Thomas Miller

Peoria- Bernard Thomas Miller, age 70, of Peoria, passed away Friday, November 28, 2014 at 6:22 PM at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home surrounded by his family. Born September 8, 1944 in Peoria, he was a son to the late Lawrence J. Sr. and Sylvia Nave-Miller. He was a graduate of Spalding Institute. On June 3, 1967, Bernie married Linda L. Helfter in St. Bernard Catholic Church in Peoria. Bernie Honorably served in the United States Marine Corps. He worked for Apache Truck Lines as a truck driver for many years until his retirement. Bernie was an avid dirt track racer, car owner and fan. He enjoyed volunteering at Illinois Cancer Care in Peoria, and was past President of Center Bluff Neighborhood Association. He will be remembered for thoroughly enjoying his family and friends, especially his 5 grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Linda; one son William A. (Brenda) Miller of Paxton, IL; daughter-in-law Jennifer Miller of Peoria; five grandchildren: Scott, Elisabeth, Matthew, Blake and Aiden; two brothers: Lawrence J. Jr. (Teresa) Miller and Phillip G. Miller; three sisters: Sondra McEnroe, Maxine Gardner and Mary Tegtmeyer; one sister-in-law Evelyn Miller, as well as, numerous nieces and nephews. Bernie was preceded in death by his parents, one son Michael Miller, one brother and one sister. Cremation rights have been accorded. A celebration of life service will take place on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014 at American Legion Post 979, 4501 S. Airport Road, in Bartonville between the hours of 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM. In Lieu of flowers, the family wishes that memorials in Bernie’s memory be made to Illinois Cancer Care, 8940 N. Woodsage Road Peoria IL, 61615, or to OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home. The family would like to extend a very special thanks to Dr. Liu and the wonderful staff at Illinois Cancer Care, and the staff at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home.
