Obituary for Barbara J. Svymbersky

Peoria- Barbara J. Svymbersky, 78, of Peoria, passed peacefully on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at 8:00 AM at her residence surrounded by her family.

Born June 16, 1940 in Peoria a daughter to John F. and Leona (Hennrich) Winkelmann. On February 20, 1960, she married the love of her life Charles “Chuck” Svymbersky at St. Philomena Catholic Church. They were married 43 years until his passing in 2003. Barb worked at Montgomery Wards Department store for many years. She was an active member of the Red Hat Society and the White Cap Drifters Boat Club and AOL-SI “58-ers.” Barb enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and playing cards, but first and foremost, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who was dearly loved and will be deeply missed.

Survivors include three children: Charles Svymbersky II of Peoria, Amy Svymbersky of Peoria and Cheryl Sprague of Morton; two grandchildren: Anthony (Emily) Sprague and Sarah Sprague; one great-granddaughter Brooklynn Cotton; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles, two brothers: Paul and Jack Winkelmann and two sisters: Margorie Pleier and Mary Ann Happach.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2019 from 9:00 AM until time of Memorial Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Philomena Catholic Church. Father David Richardson will officiate and burial will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in West Peoria.

Barb’s family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to Terri Finn and her staff at Stay at Home, including Amanda Hummer, Penny Klinedinst and Beth Campen for their compassionate care, who became like family. In addition, the family is grateful to the members of the Unity Point Hospice Team for their care and support.
