Obituary for Ava Ossenbeck

PEORIA – Ava Ossenbeck, 97, longtime resident of Peoria, recently residing in Gainesville, FL passed away on Monday, October 25, 2021 at Haven Hospice.
Ava was born on Jan. 26, 1924, in Peoria to Harold and Cecelia (Render) Cleary. She married Robert (Bo) Ossenbeck on July 31, 1948, in Peoria. He preceded her in death in January of 2011.
She was also preceded in death by her great-granddaughter, Natalie Ossenbeck, one son, Peter Ossenbeck and her sister, Patricia Carney.
She is survived by two sons, Michael (Claire) Ossenbeck of California and Patrick (Mary) Ossenbeck of Florida; two daughters, Carol Ann (Satish) Boregowda of Indiana and Margaret (Jim) Finnegan of Maryland; two grandsons, Michael (Ki Park) Ossenbeck of Florida and Brian (Jennifer) Ossenbeck of Connecticut; two granddaughters, Molly Finnegan of Maryland and Cecilia (Matt) Solis of Oregon; four great-grandchildren, Naomi, Andrew, Ashley and Emily Ossenbeck.
Ava graduated valedictorian from Manual High School and received her bachelor degree from Bradley University in 1949. She was a member of Who’s Who? in American Colleges.
When not residing in Peoria, she lived in Mountain View, Calif., from 1955-1960 and Geneva, Switzerland from 1973-1980. Ava loved to travel and visited more than 40 countries, including Russia, China, Australia, and South Africa.
She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Catholic Women’s League, St. Francis Auxiliary, St. Vincent de Paul Women’s Guild, Chi Omega Sorority, American Women’s Club, American Women’s Club of Geneva, Switzerland, and the Red Hat Society. She volunteered at Friendship House, P.A.W.S. (pet therapy), Peoria Park District, R.S.V.P. and Meals on Wheels.
Masses will be offered in Ava’s memory at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.
Burial of ashes will take place at a later date at St. Mary’s Cemetery in West Peoria, with her beloved husband, Bo. A Celebration of Ava’s life will take place at a later date.
Memorials may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Peoria, Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of the donor’s choice.
