Obituary for Ann P. Stables

PEORIA-Ann “Peggy” P. Stables, 82, of Peoria, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at 3:26 a.m. on Wednesday, September 22, 2010, at her residence. Born on June 5, 1928, in LaSalle, IL, to Jeremiah and Helen McGillen O’Connor. She married Donald J. Stables on July 5, 1952 in Peoria. He passed away on April 10, 1995, in Peoria. Surviving are three daughters, Carol (Doug) Linett of Peoria, Ellen Stables of Chicago and Joanie Dorsey of Mt. Olive, IL; two grandchildren, Aubrey and Donielle; two sisters, Mary Joan Potts of Valparaiso, IN and Carol (Charles) Green of Bonita Springs, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers and an infant son, John David Stables. Peggy was a 1946 graduate of Academy of Our Lady and attended Bradley University. She became an avid sailor before her marriage. While attending Bradley University, she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. She worked at Caterpillar, Inc., where she met Don. She started sailing again when her children left home, and enjoyed it until 75 years of age. She loved the sun, Thanksgiving trips to Venice, Florida and being surrounded by her family. She and her husband were charter members of Willow Knolls Country Club. She also was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and Catholic Women’s Guild. Peggy was a Girl Scout Leader for her daughters and a volunteer at OSF St. Francis Medical Center and R.S.V.P. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 2, 2010 at St. Vincent de Paul Church with Msgr. Jason Gray officiating. Visitation will be 30 minutes before the Mass at the church. Cremation rites have been accorded. Inurnment of ashes will be in Resurrection Mausoleum. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
