Obituary for Anita Saynovic
MORTON - Anita Saynovic, 94, of Morton, formerly of Peoria, died at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2016, at Morton Terrace Care Center.
Anita was born on March 2, 1922, in the village of Gibina in Slovenia, Yugoslavia, to the late Andrej and Marija (Krznarič) Ružman. She married Martin Saynovic on May 17, 1941, in Štrigova, Yugoslavia. They left Yugoslavia in 1946 and 1947, respectively and ultimately immigrated to the United States, where their daughter, Sylvia, later joined them. Martin died in Peoria on Nov. 15, 1986.
She was also preceded in death by her two daughters, Olga Saynovic and Sylvia Saynovic Pestl; as well as, five brothers and sisters in Slovenia.
She is survived by two granddaughters, Mrs. Michelle (Tim) Sheppard of East Peoria and Mrs. Kris (Dave) Ciccolo of Centennial, Colo.; and four great-grandchildren, Meghan, Kathryn, Tyler and Alyssa.
A sharp dresser, she was also an exceptional cook and baker, whose strudels and poticas (nut breads) could have been served in bakeries around the world. She was an accomplished gardener whose flowers were always beautiful and whose vegetable garden could support a city block.
Cremation rites have been accorded and entombment of ashes will be in Resurrection Mausoleum. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is handling the arrangements.
